I was asked to make 100-150 cupcakes for a birthday party..but i dont know how much to charge. The only problem is the customer hasn't told me what kind of design, frosting, or what favor they want...and they want a quote. I was thinking about $1.25 -$2.00 for a cupcake.
Nai
my cupcakes start at the same price as my per serving for cakes. They are a less than the 8 cubic inches that a serving of cake is, but i have more handling time and labor in them.
I charge $3.00 each for my standard BC swirled cupcakes.Anything more like fondant accents etc go up to $4.00 each.
ditto. My basic cupcake, filled, with a swirl of bc is $2.75. Just because you're making a lot of them, your price does not decrease.
Would love to know what any Australian's are charging for cupcakes from home, I'm thinking AUD$2 upwards.
I live in Perth. I'm currently charging $30 for a dozen simply frosted swirl cupcakes with basic decorations. So what's that? $2.50 per cuppie? I think that price is on the cheaper side, but I do wonder sometimes if whether I'm selling myself short. Anything with fondant or more details I'd bump it up accordingly. Perhaps Bluehue (also in Perth) could help you with prices, you could PM her?
HTH!
Cheers!
Hello All,
just joined!
I charged mine $3.5ea, sold per dozens coz they are made to order, i don't have a shop front, selling them from home based on orders.
That price is for both bc and fondant.
Do u think i charge too much?
thanks,

Thanks... I'm thinking $2.30, only because I'm just starting out. I have someone wanting a quote on around 150... I just felt like by the time I try profit something decent out of it, the total might scare them away.. I know I'm a decorator not a slave but I like to keep everyone happy too.
I think you're all very kind to your customers. I charge $3.50 per cuppie for buttercream and $4 for fondant. Minimum order of a dozen. If you go to a shop you get a stale buttercream cupcake that tastes like cardboard for $3.50 minimum!

Would you charge less if you sold more than 100?
I think my problem is I have not done many before, and whilst I am confident in my decorating skills, I am also still yet to find a bible recipe in both the cakes and icing. I have a great mudcake recipe but I tried it in cupcakes and it dried out too much... I need a bit more confidence in baking and a built-up clientelle first.

I wouldn't charge less, just because I do more doesn't make each one less work. Don't be afraid of scaring people with your prices, not everyone is going to be a client. Don't sell yourself short, work out how much it costs you to make each cupcake (wrapper, electricity, everything) and most importantly your time. You'll soon work out (as will your customers) that you're worth the money!
I just made 12 hamburger cupcakes and charged $50. for it. That's about $4.19 a cupcake you also have to cover the boxes and extras for cooking and so forth so make sure you put that cost in too.

I charge $2 per cupcake and $3 if there is a tip used other than the regular swirl.... And that price is low compared to other bakeries in the area.....
