A wedding cake client has decided on a beautiful and unique design. I am guessing that the ruffles on the cake are thinly rolled pieces of gum paste ruffled with a balling tool. Does anyone know for sure? I have attached a pic of the cake they want....it's the photo in the upper left corner.
Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions!

That's the link on your computer, we can't view the picture. Could you add a web address?
Nothing is working that I'm trying here.....if you cut and paste the web address that I listed on the bottom of the original message and add it in your address bar it will show you the pic. Again, I'm so sorry for not being able to figure this out....I saved the pic and have tried attaching it several times .

What you have pasted is not a web address. It is a link to the file on your computer. It will show you the pic cause the file is saved on your computer. Try uploading it to your album.
Ok, I added it to my photos. Will I get into trouble for posting a pic that isn't mine?
You've stated in the title that it is not yours so you won't get in trouble. It's a beautiful cake, i can't look at it close up as I'm on my iPhone but I would think it's either gumpaste or rice paper. Hopefully someone else would be able to add their insight as well as it is stunning!
I did a similar version this past weekend, but the strips on mine are larger. I rolled out fondant and used a ball tool to ruffle the edge. I used strips that were approx. 6" long x 1 1/4" wide. It was fairly easy, but definitely time consuming. Pic is in my gallery.
Here you go. See a large version of it.
I can't tell you how to do it, but now you can see it bigger.

Thanks ladies! My next question is....how much would you charge? I typically charge $7 per slice for a tiered, moderately decorated, fondant cake. I was thinking $12 per slice because it sounds like a very time consuming cake.
Yeah, to me it looks like strips of gumpaste, Or perhaps thin fondant, thats been ruffeled, i often just use the edge of a toothpick, or a thin frilling stick to do this, Its killer on the fingers after a while so a big cake like that, You definately want to charge more for!!!!
Strips of ruffled fondant, with a frilling stick. Very thin. I think gumpaste might not be that good tasting. Also, edges are not only ruffled but also ragged.
You can download the photo here since the other one is flash. This one you can enlarge in your computer after downloading, so you can see better.

I'm so sorry....now I am unable to remove it because too many people have saved it as a favorite. What should I do?
A lovely cake. According to her website, where she has many beautiful cakes, she has an $800 minimum and prices start at $10.00 per portion. Even lovelier! If you can get $12.00 it would be fantastic. It's hard to call though since I don't know what cakes go for in your area. Looks like she is in DC.
I'm in Pittsburgh PA and there are not a lot of people who do custom fondant cakes in this area....thankfully I'm thinking $12 is fair.

Oops, I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue.
I stand corrected.
