I need a chocolate cake recipe. I was thinking of "Darn good cholcoalte recipe in Doctored Cake book. It has chocolate chips in it. Do you think it would be okay for a child's birthday cake - if I use mini chips. The cake will be carved for little mermaid cake. Any good recipes?

Thanks,

Since that is based on a boxed mix, you can either use or omit the chocolate chips.

There are tons of forums on here dedicated to finding the best chocolate cake recipe. You can google chocolate cake cakecentral and some of them should come up. I think the hersheys recipe and the epicurious recipe are the highest ranked in many of the forums. Chocolate chips are always good added in. Just a note tho, if your batter is a thin consistency you need to spray your chocolate chips with some cooking spray then dust with flour so that they all dont sink to the bottom of the cake while it cooks.
good luck!

I prefer peggy porschen's recipe cause it's a little heavier than others, so you can carve it properly.
