Does anyone have any ideas how to make eyeglasses to put on top of a cake. I tried making them out of gumpaste and they crumbled.

I would make them out of gelatin - Take some white cloth covered wire and shape like glasses. Make the gelatin (like you would for gelatin flowers) and dip the wire frames in the (clear) gelatin. Let dry and then I would form frames out of fondant and wrap around the wires. Of course if you do it this way the glasses can't be too large.

Can you be more specific, what type of eye glasses? I did a pair of sun glasses for my Fancy Nancy cake, but Aine2 has a free tutorial in her website to do reading glasses with wire.

I made sunglasses for Olga's 2010 cake with a fondant gumpaste mix. I used tinted acetate for the lenses. Gelatin would be even better because it's edible.

thanks everyone, they turned out fantastic. I did sugar for the lense and modeling chocolate for the frames. I built them on the cake so I wouldn't have to move them.
