I have been asked to quote on a custom cookie order of 2500. The sugar cookie is to have a logo made from rice paper on each cookie and packaged individually. They are pressing me for a quote. I was thinking $3/cookie. Does anyone else have any idea on pricing an order like this?

It depends on how big the cookie is and if it is a custom cut design or one you can use with a regular cutter like a circle or star.I would charge anywhere from $4.00-$5.00 for a 4 inch cookie.Make sure you include the price of the packaging and of course the edible image logo so you may even go up more than $5.00 .Depends on your area and what the market will sustain..Some areas couldn't possibly charge that much but some areas can.I wouldn't do them for less than $5.00 as they are very time consuming and take along time to do..Especially 2500 even if you are only adding a EI logo.

I agree with Kiddiekakes on the pricing....generally around here you can get $1 per inch...so a 3" cookie would automatically start at $3, plus your add on for the rice paper logo and the add on for your packaging materials.

I think with this much work if you don't get at least $5 each you're going to be kicking yourself in the end...this is a TON of work!!!

wow! Thank you so much for your advice kiddiekakes & msauer. It is very much appreciated and I imagined actually having to quit my current job to take on the task of this big order. Don't know if I could get $5 ... and I will buy the copier to do the images myself but I do think maybe $4 or $4.50 now.

Are you a home baker or do you have a commercial oven, or access to a commercial oven? have you figured the baking time for these? How many helpers will you need to help do these and what is the extra payroll expense going to be? Have enough space for decorating, storing?

this sounds like a wonderful opportunity and I almost envy you!! thumbs_up.gif

I do large orders in October for pumpkin cookies. This past October I made 1500 over 4 weekends. I have a regular oven, can bake 24 3' cookies at a times.

If you have the time you can bake and freeze the undecorated cookies. Then just decorate and package in batches.

When do they need the order for?

Why rice paper and not icing sheets?

Agreed. I would definitely use icing sheets, not wafer paper.

They do sell 2/3 sheet pans at Costco. I got them at their Business Center but I have seen them online as well. They fit my home oven perfectly.

Edited to add: I guess they will only ship to California. But I'm sure you could find them if you do a quick search on google.

I got the order!!! WOO HOO!! $5/cookie. They need them for early January. I have rented a bakeries kitchen for a steal (they will be closed for front store renovations), hired 2 of their staff plus my daughter for packaging. Excited, scared & in shock too! $12500.00 for cookies! I would never have thought they would go for it but I guess considering the size of this company it kind of makes sense to me now!

Thank you all for your kind advice and well wishes. icon_smile.gif
