Bet it does not get press coverage it will be the dress not the cake. I remember Charles and Di unless you bought cake magazine you would never know sadly in UK fashion before cakes.

That's a good question. I hope it's something really large and grande. I am sure there will be pictures at the time.

The first thing that came to mind was David Cakes. He does some insane stuff with royal icing.

Who knows maybe Nick Lodge will do one of them....He did one of Princess Diannas cakes. She had many as the were many people. He has also done others for the Royal Family, Prince Harrys baby shower etc.

And if you ever, ever have a chance to take his classes dont miss....

He is GREAT!!!

Why don't we start taking some guesses. I would say maybe Sylvia Weinstock.

Well considering wedding cake in England is NOT like wedding cake here I'd assume fruitcake and marzipan and maybe RI.

there are usually several royal cakes. one for the wedding, and then a room full of cakes, that then get donated to whatever charities/ shelters etc.
these ones are usually gifted to the couple by whatever well known cake makers - when people claim to have made the royal wedding cake, more often than not they mean this room, not *the* cake. they are not chosen or picked, they volunteer.
tradition does rather dictate a fruit cake, with royal icing, but theres lots of speculation that they might go for something more modern in design. or that the cake room may be more modern designs, even if the actual cake is traditional.
xx

Who cares about the cake! It's been declared a public holiday so we all get the day off work!

Ok ok I'm only kidding icon_twisted.gificon_lol.gif I can't wait really, I love royal weddings but it will also be a little sad without Diana there to see her son get married.

Poor brother if he does do it. No pressure then! Blimey, not sure I could handle that, certainly not for that kind of family/guests!

As a side note, I read that UK brides are in a panic and hoping the royal date will not be THEIR date. no bride wants to compete with a royal wedding on the same day! One bride said all of her relatives would want to be home watching the royal wedding instead of attending hers; another said she had a lot of out of town guests and she can't imagine the headaches of them trying to get into town and get hotel rooms thru all of the increased security. that's a part of it I never thought about......

I'll try to find the article I read online...but it stated that the cake would be done by the same baker who does the cakes for the Queen's royal functions and it would cost approx. $3000 Cdn (about 1950 British pounds)!

Doesn't sound like much to me but I don't know the going rate for cakes in the UK. I wonder exactly how many people will eat the royal wedding cake?

This is probably old news by now but they've set the wedding date as April 29, 2011.

My bet is Mich Turner.

I think it's lovely if her brother bakes it, sure would give his business a boost.

In the name of "research" I quickly Googled Kates brother, James. Having seen his website http://www.thecakekitcompany.com I really don't think he will be doing the royal wedding cake - not their style, I would say icon_rolleyes.gif
