Hello!

I have had it with my Wilton leveler and am saving for an Agbay. I need something to use for the interim. I am not very good at leveling with a knife in the pan! I saw a leveler from Fat Daddios for $45 that I thought I might try, but wanted to see if any of my fellow CCers had any opinions or suggestions first. TIA!

While lots of people on here complain about it, I have always had great luck with my large Wilton leveler. You just have to remember to use a gentle sawing motion....that said.....I do have an Agbay now and love it. What problems are you having with the Wilton leveler?

which wilton leveler do you have? I just have the wire one and i find that it works well... but the cake CAN NOT be cold, it has to be at room temp. And i do a sawing motion (as mentioned above) AND i turn my cake at the same time so that i'm not cutting all the through the cake, but i'm cutting from the outer edge to the middle (this helps prevent any tearing when cutting through the opposite side)

the other thing i was going to mention was just using a long knive and cutting across the top of your pan, but the trick here is to have a long enough knife so that it sits on both sides of the pan when cutting the cake to keep the knife level.

I have both the large and small Wilton levelers. The problem that I am having is with the large one. I use a sawing motion, but the cake is sometimes slightly unleveled, and I thought it was due to the blade being so flexible. I haven't tried rotating the cake though, which sounds like a good idea. Sounds like operator error now, rather than a problem with the equipment! icon_smile.gif Thanks for your help!

I don't think it's operator error, if you ever see any tutorials on using them you shouldn't have to rotate the cake, but i just found that if i do i dont' get frustrated and i can use my existing leveler until i get the Agbay

Which long Wilton Leveler are you talking about, the new folding one, or the older non-folding one?

My sister has the old type and I have used it several times and have not had a problem using it IF you make sure the blade on it is straight and not tilted slightly. The folding version I always have trouble getting a straight cut with it. I DON'T like it at all. I will probably be returning it.

At the end of this thread:

RainbowBeach talks about putting strong earth magnets at each end of your long knife. I thought it was a genius idea. She posted a photo in her pictures, but it was deleted by CC.

It was just a knife, with magnets on each side that will keep it level.
