OMG.....I'm at a loss for words. I was just working on my cake order for this weekend and was pulling some fondarific out of the 5lb bucket and came across the thumb portion of a rubber glove sticking out of the middle of it. I'm totally disgusted. Has this happened before? What do I do? I have pictures but I can't figure out how to post them...

OMG that is nasty, hopefully the seller will be kind enough to send you out a new tub and the company that makes it should be notified. Send an email with the photos to them as well. Often the retailer gets the brunt when really the company that made it is responsible.

A girlfriend of mine once found something latex of a personal manner in a tub of sealed Oxy Clean. icon_eek.gif

I would notify the manufacturer immediately. Don't bother returning the item to the retailer. The manufacturer is entirely responsible. They should be the ones to compensate you. Send pictures.

Most reputable retailers stand behind the products they sell. The manufacturer would be doing a dis-service if they did not offer you a cheerful refund and a free replacement to compensate for the disgusting 'additive'.

Look on the bright side, at least it was just the thumb part of a glove and not an actual thumb... icon_twisted.gif

Would someone please tell me how someone could lose the thumb off their rubber glove and not know it. Yuck. Heads would roll. Not really...but I would get a full refund...and a different brand of fondant. Glad I make my own marshmallow fondant.

With the price of that stuff, it's about time they started offering a "prize inside". icon_wink.gif

But seriously, why would you even want free fondant from them if you had to be concerned there was glove bits in it? Yuck!

PieceofCakeAZ, that's just to funny, not to make light of the situation but who says Cracker Jacks is the only thing with a prize inside. Surely there is a lot number somewhere on that container that can get close to whoever packaged iticon_smile.gif

I contacted them after the pink fondant I purchased ended up being white in the bucket with blobs of yellow in it and they sent a total replacement container plus an extra little "bonus" container. I'm sure they'll do right by you. As disgusting as it is, I think all food manufacturers have a foul up like that now and then.

And as someone else said...thankfully it wasn't a real thumb! Can you imagine??? ACK!!

It was brought up a while ago that Fondarific--and I presume Duff's Fondant from Michaels because it's Fondarific, too--is hand packed.

Now we know that they wear gloves when they hand pack it.

Somebody obviously lost the tip of the thumb on a glove and may not have realized it for several buckets.............honest mistake. Stuff happens. Wasn't malicious--just accidental. Hard thing to catch if it's an assembly line operation. I'm sure that they'll make it right.

Doesn't bother me, really. I had this happen the first time I ever used fondant--it was in a class--and it was then that I vowed to never again wear gloves when kneading fondant icon_lol.gif

That was my thought. These things happen. It's not the end of the world. And it's probably not even unsanitary as it most likely went through the sterilization process right along with the fondant. Don't get me wrong. I still wouldn't use it. I'm sure the Fondarific people will give you a refund and get you a new bucket. It certainly wouldn't stop me from using Fondarific in the future.

I bet it was a finger cot. If an employee has a cut on their finger, most company health rules, (the ones that follow them) state a bandaged finger has to be covered with a finger cot before the employee can work with food products or around foods or in the health care profession.

Nonetheless, what you found shows the finger cot obviously fell off the employee's finger. It would be easy to not notice it had fallen off if you're in the middle of filling & mixing etc. Unfortunately, you got the bucket if fell into. You really need to contact the manufacturer on this. They need to know about the cot even more than the shop you bought it from online.

I've added a link to a photo of a hand wearing finger cots for you to compare. Don't know how to add the photo itself to the body of this post.
