I am going to be doing a birthday cake for a dear friend who is like a father to me. He loves the Christmas Vacation movie with Chevy Chase, so I'm trying to incorporate something from that movie into the cake. Problem is that I've never seen it, and he can basically recite the movie.

It doesn't have to be "birthday" related at all - I just need some direction from the actual movie. Any ideas?

you could make a burnt up christmas tree up the side of a 2 tier cake and then put fondant cutout christmas lights strands haphazardly draped around the whole cake. If you are good with fondant or gumpaste figures you could put a beat up camper on the top.

Don't forget to put a blackened outline of a cat on there! Fried pussycat!!!!

Ohh! Hide a squirrel somewhere on the cake too!

You can't leave Cousin Eddie out. Don't know who was the most fun, Eddie or the squirrel.

You seriously HAVE to watch the movie. It is HILARIOUS! Lets see...there's the green jello mold with cat food in it...a deflated turkey...a one year subscription to the "Jelly of The Month Club"...a see through white sweater with a black Dickie underneath...a leopard speedo...the moose mugs...definitely the charred outline of a cat...and you absolutely can't forget the squirrel! The options are endless really!

Oh, you really need to watch it, it is by far one of my favorite movies. It's on about 200 times a week once December starts icon_smile.gif lol

This movie is chock full of great stuff. I love the overloaded outlet and the huge knot of lights. If you rent the movie, you will definitely be inspired! It might be fun for you to simply try and place all the things mentioned to you in these posts. lol.

PS... find the blue turbin!

A string of Christmas lights, a cup of eggnog, a mischievous squirrel, and a good old Santa hat with bells. thumbs_up.gif
This movie is a cult classic...stupid funny. icon_razz.gif

How 'bout the RV parked out front (don't get attached to it because we'll be takin' it with us when we leave next month)? Or the burnt chair that is still a "quality item" according to cousin Eddy?
