So- I just delivered a small 3 tier wedding cake. 6,8,10"- covere in fondant with some black piping on the front.

About 2 miles from the reception, I was pulling off the freeway and a dog ran out onto the road. The car in front of me slammed on the breaks, I swerved and slammed on the breaks, the 3 tier cake completely toppled over, off the cake board and rolled around tha back of the van.

Crazy enough the only damage was to the back! The top tier got a little smushed, but overall it still looked nice. I knew it was only a matter of time until I had my first cake disaster!

Sounds like one of those moments that leave you breathless, and not in the good way. Good to hear that a near catastrophe was avoided!

Glad you were not hurt! For this very reason, I was considering the cake safe, it seems to fit the bill. Does anyone have it? It seems like it would take away the stress of cake deliveries.

Glad you weren't hurt, and minor damage only to the cake. And really glad the dog didn't get hit!

I own a CakeSafe....and this would have been an instance where the cake would not have been damaged at all if the cake would have been in one. Locinda, what size did you purchase, I really want one, and only make 3 tier cakes (usually) so, for the extra $$, I am thinking go for the biggest. Any suggestions?

Measure the average cake you usually do and buy the next bigger size.

I also have a Cake Safe (well 3 actually), and agree with Loucinda that this would have been one of those times you would kiss and hug your Cake Safe. I had something like this happen recently. Two wedding cakes in the back of my SUV. Hit a speed bump going about 25 mph. Cake Safes wend airborn....seriously. Came down, slid, and nearly fell over. Only damage was to one of the cakes where a part of the pearl border came loose. Had I not had those cakes in my Cake Safes, they would have been obliterated and I would have been out nearly $1000.

I just commented to my husband last weekend during deliveries that other than the basics needed to actually bake and make a cake, my Cake Safes have been the best investment I've made in my business. Even when you have a flawless delivery, the stress it saves you and time it saves you is worth the price itself.

Oh my! It sounds like no one was hurt - whew! and even the cake got away with "minor injuries". Congratulations on good driving skills, and, I have a feeling your story just sold quite a few Cake Safes.

I have never dropped a cake yet....until today, my husband's birthday! It was just a 10" round, choc. fondant with a gumpaste bow on top. Just as I was going to put it on the table at the restaurant, the cake plate hit the edge of the table and the cake fell over....in front of everyone! Well, the bow broke apart and the fondant had gashes in it and my hand prints from trying to piece it together. Thank God, it was fondant, had it been BC it would have been one hell of a mess. After the shock, everyone broke out in laughter......I hope they were trying to make me feel better.

I have to deliver my first cake (a 3 tier wedding cake) next weekend. I only have to travel less than a block away but there are about 4 speed humps to make it over safely.. eek!
I had a near disaster with my newest creation this morning. I was up until 3.30am finishing off my gf's 2 tier hen's night cake.. I sat it safely on the middle shelf in the fridge giving it ample clearance from the top shelf. However, I hastily pulled it out of the fridge today and the big fondant fleshy member got caught on the top shelf and was nearly knocked off his perch lol. 6 straight hours of decorating nearly ended in tears.. however been so tired has left me in an EXTREMELLY giggly mood and I've done nothing but laugh about clocking the old fella on the head
