You bought soft artists oil pastels to color your ICING???????????????
NO, no, no! You don't color icing with oil pastels 
You can dust gum paste flowers that aren't meant to be eaten with non-toxic chalk pastels, but you don't color icing with anything like that.
You can purchase Wilton, Americolor, ChefMaster, Ateco, etc. gel/paste colors, or dry powder food colors to color your icing. To get a pastel, you just use less--but you DON'T use "pastels"................

Oh yeah--I bought colored chalk to then take a razor blade and scrape off to make dusts to color gum paste flowers and molded items. Scott Clark Woolley recommended this to me. Well stupid me bought oil pastels and oil pastels don't work--dang it. I wanted to have it as back up.
I can hardly resist the cute little jars of lovely lovely dusty colors available in the cake stores oooohhh be still my beating heart. But I wish all the lids were the screw on ones--the lift off lids are gonna crack my teeth some day. Oops did I just say I have to use my teeth to open those jars??? 
It's very very very easy to get all this coloring stuff and dusts and everything mixed up! I mean if you're not thoroughly confused for a while I'd question your devotion into cake deco

I seem to be the bearer of bad tidings here, but the pastels that can be used on gum paste flowers is actually CHALK pastesl, not the soft oil ones.

At the ICES Convention they had luster dust openers (like little can openers) for $2 each. I bought 5!!

The teeth thing totally made me laugh. I was in my kitchen the other day, opening "Mushroom" with my teeth and I thought, what if I was standing on a food network cake challenge and put my petal dust in my mouth?!

The sides of my thumbs/fingers, my fingernails & my hubby (he's used a knife before) thank you SOOOOO much. I'm a dork, I have one & NEVER thought about using it....lol

Funny you should ask. I actually "have" eight hands....my two, and six little gritchy hands that belong to my 7, 9, and 10 year old niece/nephews who "help" me with cake decorating (luster dusts are their absolute favorites). Whenever they stay overnight, every single thing in my house gets touched or moved. I just bought a replacement pair of tweezers yesterday (for my old-lady-chinny-chin-chin hairs) that had gone missing. Found it this morning in my cake supply closet.
You can buy little cups with screw-on lids or easier flip-tops at the craft store. After I get the petal dust open, I dump it into one of those and throw out the original container.
