I just did a cake this weekend for a bride that forgot to order her wedding cake. Two weeks before the wedding. She asked if I would do it for her...got my number from a friend. She said it would be the easiest cake I had ever done. Beware of brides that say that.

I told her I was not a professional...but I do cakes for family and friends. She sent me two pictures...one a two tiered stacked cake with ribbon and one single layer with flowers on top. She told me that she wanted the two tiered cake without the ribbon...but with the type of flower that was on the single layer. Done in a light and airy smooth frosting. I work mostly with bettercreme and knew that I could get it smooth.

My mistake was in piping it. I had no idea that she didn't want it piped. I found it out in an e mail the morning of the wedding....I was leaving for work!! I was getting out of work at 2 and had to deliver the cake at 2:30. I tried to remove the piping from the bettercreme....people that work with bettercreme know that you can't remove it easily. I ruined the cake trying to fix it.

I went to work sick to my stomach and didn't know what I was going to do. I happened to get out of work early....no time to make any buttercream!! I went into King Soopers and bought their buttercream....thick like glue!! Scraped the bettercreme off and put the buttercream on....smooth with Viva paper towel....smooth....stacked them...and delivered.

I took $40 off the cost...because I knew that it was not the cake that she wanted....My huband was furious with me....I had to drive the cake 50 miles. I didn't make anything on this cake. Don't know if this cake thing is for me!!

So sorry about your experience. Did the pictures have any piping on them? If so, I can understand the misunderstanding. Even tho I only do cakes as favors for friends, I am always a wreck! I have two this month, so need to stock up on wine!

No...the layered cake had ribbon on it and she told me she didn't want ribbon. The single layered cake didn't have piping either. I just didn't know how to cover the seam without piping. Never gave it a thought that she didn't want it piped...I used a very small tip and piped an open shell...it looked very nice. The email later in the day told me that I could use ribbon but I didn't get that email in time. I was so frustrated by this cake. She told me that she was very easy going and didn't want me to stress over it....and she would be happy with what I made her....That was not the case. She wanted a smooth buttercream two tier cake with no showing seams. I guess I just don't have the temperment for cake baking...

Don't give up! Your cakes are very pretty. The fact that you only had 2 weeks to prepare probably made you stress even more. She should have been thankful for what she got...and she should have paid more for hardly any notice! Good luck and keep your head up

OMG.........for real she forgot to order a cake for her own wedding until 2 weeks before it? I am betting she was a bridezilla to the other cake decorator and they told her to go take a long walk off a short pier..........you poor kid.........don't let people take advantage of you.....she was looking for a free cake from day one. Its people like her that makes being in business dicey at best! Sorry she pulled this on you. OMG I am so sure I would have hit her lol......with the cake!!!
