First of all let me say that I am not a cake decorator. I am just a very satisfied customer of a near by cake artist. I love reading the forums here and also looking at the beautiful cakes in amazement. I see on here how some of you have customers that compain about everything and want to get a cake for free. I would never think of doing that to my "Cake Lady". So many do not see that it is a true form of art & takes so much talent to turn out a beautiful cake. When I ordered my daughters 16th birthday cake, I knew it was going to be a challenge. My daughter gave her the idea of a square cake with a bulldog (school mascot) on top, bow in her hair & polka dots on the main cake. My "Cake Lady" informed me that she had never done anything like that but was up for the challenge.
We figured on a sheet cake with a small dog on top. When I arrived to pick it up, bot did I get a surprise. This was a 12 inch square 4 inch thick cake with an almost lifesize bulldog on top made of RCT. The cake was frosted in buttercream that she makes herself (soooo yummy), had fondant red & black polka dots covering it. The dog itself was grey fondant covered with a a red bow in her hair with her toenails painted red to be all girly and was also holding it its paw a cupcake. This work of art was so heavy (aprox 50 lbs or more) she had it on a piece of plywood that was neatly covered.
So... when my "Cake Lady" told me the price of $220.00... did I balk at that?? No way!!! She had put so much thought, hard work and talent into it, I would never think of asking her for a discount. It really was a work of art. I guess what I am trying to say is that I appreciate her talent so much and have actually became a good friend with her. So it is no big deal for me to drive an hour for one of her cakes. They are beautiful and also very tasty.
Thanks everyone for reading this. I hope you all have customers that appreciate all of the talent that I see on here. Take care everyone & Happy Caking!!!

Thank-you so much for posting this. It was such a nice change of pace to hear a customer giving compliments instead of complaints. BTW I'm sure your cake lady loves you too.

It sounds completely adorable. Add having worked with RKT's I KNOW she put a lot of work into covering it with fondant. You are a special lady to acknowledge her hard work, and on her behalf I would like to say thank you for her and from me. Not many people can appreciate the time and effort that goes into something like that.

I am always so happy to have customers like the OP. I just got a $50.00 tip from one such good client for the Mt. St. Helen's cake in my pictures. I really felt appreciated!

I think you are wonderful to come on and let the rest of us know just how apprieciative of the hard work that these cakes really are. Sometimes I don't think people really understand all that goes into some of the cake and even some cup cakes for that matter. Thanks for being a loyal customer to your cake lady and I can only wish I find someone like you! icon_smile.gif

You all really are to kind. I am actually picking up another cake from her later on today (Saturday). And if I can get pictures to post, I will post them of the ones I have gotten from her. Actually I got an email from her earlier that said she was sorry but didnt realize how much fondant decorations were on the cake I ordered and would have to charge me $60.00 instead of the $55.00 that she quoted. This is for a 2 tier, buttercream frosted 6 inch & 9 inch cake. I actually got the design from a cake that I saw on here and fell in love with. So I will have to make sure I go back and find who did it so that I can give the kudos for thier beautiful cake as well. But anyway, I didnt balk at all when she asked for a little more because I know all the hard work that she does. And I also know that today her power was out while trying to get my cake done and she will be working into the night to do it for me.
You know, it really does get on my nerves to see other artists post on here that people try to get huge discounts on their cakes or even get them for free. The way I look at it... if I did that to my "Cake Lady", I would be taking monies from her that she may really need for whatever it might be. People can be so rude & inconsiderate and that is a huge pet peeve for me.
I am so glad that people stopped by my post to read it and some of you even replied. thumbs_up.gif Like I said in the OP... I am not a decorator and would never attempt to do the things you all can do with cakes to make them a work of art. There are so many of you that have truely been blessed with talent. May you all have wonderful days & nights of cake making and be blessed with fantabulous customers!!!

I believe my biggest issue is that people think that you can just blink your eyes and "Pooff" their cake is done. I had a lady that wanted a cake and I usually take orders for 2 weeks in advanced and she called me like 10 days and I said ok becasue it was a friend of a friend! What was I thinking, anyway I also recieve 1/2 down to hold their orders, and covers my expences in the process. For 5 days she mad excuse after excuse why she couldn't gert here and our town is not that big and her husband works in the same build (grrr), anyway she said she's be over on that Sunday well needless to say I called her by 2pm just to let her know I had to step out and would be gone for about an hour (didn't want to miss her) well needless to say Sunday came and went and nothing from her till Wednesday and her cake at this point was due for Friday night! I couldn't do anything but laugh and called her the next day to let her know she wasn't getting her cake! As everyone that I knows they have family's jobs, and other commitments and you have to work around everything. it just amazes me some people think it all about them. So I do apprieciate you being loyal to your cake lady. icon_smile.gif
