I've been thinking about using SugarCakes for a long time now. When I finally got around to telling someone about it, they suggested that it didn't sound right because it made them think about all the calories that are in cake. They said they want to enjoy eating cake and not be reminded of it. Also having the word "sugar" isn't good because it reminds them of the "bad" ingredients in the cake. I had a couple other people say that too. So Im kind of upset. I like the name, but I don't want to put people off. Any suggestions? icon_sad.gif

I think it's a cute name. It's like when some one call someone sugar, not like my cakes are full of sugar.

How ridiculous. It's a very cute name. Its not like you're calling it fatty cakes or hi-cal cakes! Sounds like your friends are in complete denial. If you dont already know how much sugar is in cake then . . . DUH! Like they wouldn't purchase sweets from a place called Sugar Cakes. Please!

I agree... using "SugarCakes", "FlourCakes", or any name that describes the ingredients used doesn't sound appealing, but rather describing the taste does; like "SweetCakes" or the likeness.

The exception would be if the ingredients used is specifically what you're all about if your marketing to a particular group.

I don't see a big deal with the SugarCakes name, the reputation of a business and its competitive advantages have a far greater impact on success than the name of the business.

There is a bakery here in the SF Bay area called "Sugar Butter Flour", and they do very well.

My business name is Fat Girl Cakes (named it after myself)... I have more business than I can handle. Cakes are supposed to be full of fat, sugar, calories, etc... that's what makes them taste good!

hah Fat Girl Cakes...that's GREAT!
I like SugarCakes because I always call my kids Sugar. I thought it's familiar to me. I guess everyone will have their opinion about a name. And a name is just a name, that's all. They will remember me from the way the cakes look and taste, not the name!

thanks TerriLynn. My point is pick a name you like... and don't worry about what potential customers might think.

I agree with the others. I happen to like the name. Doesn't matter what it is from Cakes, to Cookies, etc. If you don't want to eat then don't buy it. Good luck with everything.

I love Sugar Cakes! I think it's a great name. Is it really a surprise to anyone that cakes have a lot of sugar in them? That criticism is just silly. Go for it!
