If I have a crusted buttercream cake, and I want to attach little fondant stars etc to the side, how do I make them stick? Obviously I wouldn't want to wet the surface like you do when sticking fondant to fondant....?
Just brush a little vanilla extract on the back of the stars and GENTLY press onto buttercream. Works just like glue!
i use a soft brush dipped in water (then wipe some off so the brush is just damp) brush the back and then stick it to the buttercream.
I use a small paint brush and a little bit (repeat, a little bit) of corn syrup to the back of the star to attach it to the side of s crusted buttercream cake.
I either brush the back of the fondant with water or use a dollop of BC on the back of the fondant piece, depending on the size and design.
I use Antonia74's RI for absolutely everything in need of glue. I'd use it to glue myself to the ceiling if I ever had the need ...
i have a spray bottle that i use with water, i lightly spray the cake and then attach the fondant. only works if you have nothing else that is sugar on it though. i only use it on pieces that are just crusted. hth
