Help Solve Our Layer Cake Argument
Decorating By autumnsmom Updated 25 Feb 2005 , 9:37pm by autumnsmom
I recently purchased the strawberry shortcake wilton pan and it came w/ directions. It says to grease, flour, etc...then add your layer cake batter. I assume that means bake 2 cakes and frost or whatever between and then stick together before frosting. My aunt says it means it will hold the whole recipe? I think I am right but now am worried. Can I make 2 cakes and put them together? Thank you in advance!
It says ADD... the batter... you add the raw batter. the pan holds one boxed mix batch of batter.
I would just do one cake. Most character pans I have used are done that way. If you made two and tried to layer them, the figure on top of the bottom layer might make it uneven and not level. That is just my opinion.
You could even bake it as one cake and then divide it into layers.
Hope this helps!
If you need the amount of servings 2 cakes gives... bake one as a 9*13, and one as the character. Place the character cake on top of the 9*13 after decorating it.
I've baked two cakes and leveled one for the bottom layer. Then you'll have the right shape.
I generally just make one layer........it's usually for kids......they don't eat that much...........
Thank you all so much, I guess I figured since it said layer cake recipe that I needed to make 2 cakes. I like the idea of putting it on a 9x13 though, and of splitting it into layers. Hmmm I should just quit thinking and do it! Thank you all!
