I'd like to make a brain cake, just for fun icon_wink.gif And take it into work with me .(I work at a large animal vet hospital)

I'm not sure how to go about it, however this is what I was thinking...

I was thinking just using some rounds, icing in between and then making a slight cut down the center of the stacked cakes to make them fold over ever so slightly. (This would just be on the top layer) Then crumb coating. I was also thinking of taking some hardly squeezeable white chocolate and making the squiggles (sorry, for lack of better non-medical terms) on top, chilling it till hard then covering with fondant in hopes that the fondant will drape nicely over the squiggles.

In theory, do you think this would work?

EWWWWW! Awesome! What about just carving the cake in the dome shape of the brain, ice it, then use ropes of white or off white fondant coiled around randomly to make the...uh...squiggles. Perhaps paint with thinned red piping gel, just enough so the red settles into the crevices between the squiggles and the gel gives it a nice wet, just-from-the-skull look?
