Hi,

I prepared chocolate cupcakes for dh's office and put them all in the &@!! Wilton cupcake carrier. The first time dh picked it up by the top handle, all the cupcakes tipped and got squished. Needless to say, the cupcakes did not go to the office with him. icon_sad.gif

This was the first time I have ever attempted to transport cupcakes. How do I avoid this in the future?

Wilton strikes again.

You can either use a glue dot (scrap booking section of your hobby store) on the bottom of the cupcakes, or a better carrier. Or the boxes with inserts or a clamshell plastic cupcake box.

My experience with all boxes - lift from the bottom! No matter how good the box, it's dificult to lift something level with one hand.

The problem with the Wilton carrier is thet the cup holders are too shallow.

Like brincess_b, I make sure the carrier is absolutely flat and carry it holding the bottom, not the handle. I have other carriers that are more reliable, and I use those when I don't have a large number of cupcakes to transport.

I use cake boxes with the inserts..Never had a problem..The Wilton carrier and others are useless in my opinion!!

I add a small dot of icing under each cupcake and that keeps them in place (my cupcake are placed on a cake board)

Shaddi: do you use RI to secure your cupcakes? Room temp buttercream wouldn't work, right?

Sorry for the late respond. I use reg buttercream, what ever I have left over from what I used on the cupcakes. At first they will feel loose but by the next morning the cupcakes are secure in place.

Now, don't get me wrong they will tip over if you take sharp turns as you drive or hold the box side ways. it more to keep them in place from sliding and hitting each other till you get them to the customer. (LOL) icon_smile.gif

Hope that help.

If you see my cupcakes the Popcorn box for example they are on the cake board that I want them to be on to go along with the cupcakes and and I place the dot of icing under them and they stay put.

I have the same problem with them tipping. I have tried carrying them in a cupcake pan but then it is hard to get them out cause the sides are too high. So I have had an idea in my head to take a piece of plywood and use a hole saw to drill cuppie size holes to fit in a 9 x 13 pan or a storage tub. But......when I was reading your responses I got to thinking about some foam insulation we are working with to insulate our van. That way it would be lightweight. Now to finish the van so I can try this idea. Thanks for helping advance my crazy idea!

That's what I do, using just regular buttercream icon_smile.gif

Just wondering has anyone used the Cupcake Courier as I was thinking of purchasing one?

I use the inserts in the cake boxes. But when I ran out and needed a carrier on the fly, I cut some plastic cups down to about 3/4 to 1 inch high and hot glued them to a cake board. They held the cupcakes perfectly. I like this idea because you can use any box and cake board you have on hand, as long as it is big enough.

This super-simple, cheap, disposable/recyclable way to deliver a bunch of cupcakes is a BRILLIANT idea! Kudos to the lady that posted the pics.

All she does is turn a cupcake pan over, mold a piece of aluminum foil to the bottom of the pan, then put the aluminum "mold" in a box and set the cupcakes for delivery in the aluminum foil. They don't squish together, fall over, move around, get ruined. I love this idea.

What a great idea!! I wish I had thought of that when I needed something a couple of months ago. I ended up buying the 3 pack of wilton inserts...but they only carry 4 cupcakes each. So since I had two dozen, I had to spend $10 plus money on cake boxes to put them in! Normally I just get the inserts online, but I didn't have time to order them. Now I will stock up on plastic cups!!

I can't take credit for the brilliance myself. I read it on another post a while back. (but I don't remember who the brilliant person was) Glad to pass on the idea though!!!!

I just used the cardboard box/aluminum cupcake holders to make 12 trays (5-9 cupcakes each tray) of cupcakes for the cake walk at the free Halloween carnival our community offers each year. Because of the minimal cost, I was able to deliver twice as many items for the cake walk. (The kids are just going to throw the package away anyway.)

Apti
Thank you so much for posting it and sharing it with us. I have an Order next week for 200 cupcakes and I didn't want to go out and by 6 cupcake carriers sets. you just saved me from wasting my money. What a great idea. Thank you

I do the dot of icing on the bottom of each cupcake and place them on a cake board but that is for orders of 24 cupcakes but for this order of 200 cupcake, they are going to be displayed around another cake doesn't need a cake board. so that is a great idea on holding them until I get to the event. Great timing, you just don't know how HAPPY I am to see your post.

Thank you,
Shaddi

You're welcome Shaddi. Very glad it was helpful--wasn't she wonderful to post pictures of her technique? I was very lucky to find it and be able to pass it on.

I actually posted this earlier on the cupcake forum, but it gets lost very easily. If anyone else can think of a better title or tag words (or whatever they are called), please re-post the link so this lovely woman's idea gets to a lot of folks. I personally think it is worthy of a sticky on the cupcake forum, but I'm also new to computer threads and forums and stuff.
