I'm making a Tiffany Jewelry box cake for Sunday and want to ask a question. What is the best way to make my 'ribbon' look like satin? I have edible glaze, luster dust, but I'm not sure how to make my fondant bow look like satin. Any help will be much appreciated.

If it were mine, I would probably just roll the icing really thin and then mix the lustre dust with alcohol and paint it on so its nice & opaque.

Hmmm........edible glaze makes it look shiny not so much like satin. Have you thought about just a luster dust...to me that gives it that shimmer without making it shiny shiny. I remember on one of the cake challenges someone did a shoe that actually looked like satin but I don't think they showed the technique. It's a sheen without being shiny. I hope someone can offer up some options for you.

I would just use white pearl luster dust and a dry brush. I think it gives a shimmer without looking like it is painted on.

Luster dust is a great one to use for this. Depending on the look you want try it dry or wet with vodka.

Also, you can use a fabric pattern/impression wheel along the edges to give it a stitched ribbon look...

I'd use Pearl Luster Dust applied with a large dry brush..it looks exactly like satin..I use it commonly on my cake ribbons, baby shoes etc...
