Cake Competition Theme Display And Copyright?
Decorating By karenapple Updated 11 Oct 2010 , 3:32am by karenapple
I'll be participating of a cake competition and my design will be based on a song for kids, a nursery rhyme or something like that. Should I display the song on the table beside my cake?
Also, is there any copyright issue??
Thanks already!!!!!!!!!
I would have thought there wouldnt be a copy right and I think if your cake was a good representation of the song you wont need to put the song beside it
but dont take what I said as right lol
lol it's because the nursery is not that common. I just learned about it because I was looking for something different and I'd be able to represent. but my afraid is to have to explaining to each person what the cake is about.
so, i don't know :/ lololol
but thanks for your opinion!
it's hard to say. I've heard there's a copyright on Happy Birthday!
Have you sourced the nursery rhyme to see where it came from? This whole copyright thing confuses me. I can understand why it's in place but I get a sore head thinking about it......
I'm not an expert, but....
If I understand correctly, you will be using a song/poem/rhyme already in existence, and using the lyrics to make a cake design, right? the cake design itself - based on the lyrics - should not have any copyright issues associated with it. Unless you directly copy the artwork that goes with that version of the lyrics.
If you are talking about copyright issues with regard to posting the lyrics with the cake, just be sure to give credit to the author/source when you display it near your cake and I would think that should be OK.
If you are in any doubt at all, though - just contact the creator... in my experience most people/companies I have contacted approve of the use for something like that.
Hi guys! thank you so much for the advices. I sent an e-mail to the person who recored the song and she told me the lyric it's public domain, only her recording is copyrighted, so I can use the lyric to base my design! yay!!!
She just asked me to send a picture of the cake when it's done
