I really need help on this one! Someone wants only the bottom tier of this cake with the city skyline. Since I am not an artist, I would not be able to paint this on freehand. The only way I can see doing this is with finding a pic and printing as an edible image. The downside to that is that I don't have my own printer so it wouldn't be cheap to print and she only wants the cake to feed 15-20 ppl. What do you think? How would you do this?

How about rolling out a mixture of fondant/gumpaste and cutting it out. Then just stick in on the side of the cake.

it's a black and white theme so the bldgs would have to be painted. i cant get the pic to attach tho! i want you to see it. let's try again...

If you're doing a silhouette, I would do exactly as Lee15 described...no painting required if you color your fondant/gumpaste black before rolling and cutting.

Why can't you cut out a skyline from black fondant?

I would print out a picture and put a piece of wax paper on top and use chocolate wafers/melts to "draw" your skyline.

I almost exclusively use this technique
