Transporting cupcakes

Forgive me if this has been covered somewhere else. I tried a few searches and nothing came up.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to transport and then arrange 30 cupcakes on a stand without the bc swirl getting messed up. The cupcake inserts at my cake store are too tall or something, so they come right up to the frosting edge and make it very messy to get them out of the box. Same thing if I just leave them in the cupcake pans.

I'm thinking I may have to frost onsite, but I will only have a few minutes to get it assembled, so I'd prefer to frost beforehand.

Are there any tricks I don't know about?

I use glue dots (the type for scrapbooking) to stick cuppies to a regular cake board, box them up and pop them off when you get to your destination, and arrange them as you wish. They don't move.

I found these cupcake inserts at my local cake store & they work awesome! The cupcakes are properly separated so they don't squish together & they are reusable.

I purchased these aweome non crushable disposable plastic containers (they come in different size packs) and have a deep dome. They are perfect and what I use for all my cupcake orders. (You can see them in my photos under the wedding monogram cuppies). I happened to get an amazing deal on ebay, but the same ones are for sale on plasticcontainercity (dot) com.

I just transported 150 cupcakes and didn't want to invest much into trays. I read very handy way of transporting them online (sorry I can't recall where). This is how it works: Turn cupcake pan upside down, shape aluminum foil so it copies the shape of cupcake trays. I just did that and put all aluminum "forms" into shallow box. When I got to the site, I just pushed aluminum down so no BC got crushed and it was very easy to remove icon_smile.gif

Ooh, these are all great ideas! I'm so glad I asked. Since I'm transporting today and I have foil and glue dots on hand, I'll try 1 or both of those options.

In a pinch, a dab of icing works well too. I did that with 300 mini cupcakes I had to transport & all but a couple made it without sliding or falling over.
Just letting you know, because the glue dots did not work for me, grease from the liners prevented them from sticking.

I use a regular cake box with a cake board in the bottom for stability and the plastic cupcake inserts (from Amazon above)l. I also put non slip drawer liner under each box in the back of my van so that the boxes don't move. Transported 150 cupcakes this way for a wedding on Friday and it worked great!I was able to clean off the plastic inserts and reuse, which is nice.
I tried the thin cardboard inserts, and they were a disaster!

Ok, I've got them in place with glue dots and will transport with drawer liner. I hope this goes well. I'll get the amazon liners and the disposable holders for the future.

I took 70 cupcakes to a birthday party. I put 35 unfrosted in a 1/2 sheet cake box with a 1/2 cake sheet cardboard in the bottom of the box. I then iced them with a 1M tip making sure not to take the icing swirls all the way to the edges. I then put tiny RI flowers on top of each one and sprinkled with fairy dust. I placed the boxes on a large piece of rubber drawer liner (the cheap $1 kind). They don't move and the cuppies arrived in perfect condition. HTH

mbark - thanks for that link on the plastic holder. I've been looking for something like that. I hate it when i transport on cake board and even if I drive slow the cupcakes slide around (usually 3-4 slide all the way off and then fall out when I open the car door).

No problem! They really are helpful & not too expensive & reusable!

I had to transport a 150 cupcakes to a wedding a few weeks ago. I took regular sheet boxes and placed cake boards in the boxes. On top of the boards I placed some non-slip shelving liner over them and placed a little frosting glue dot on the bottom of each cupcake and placed them on the shelving liner. All 150 cupcakes arrived safely. Good Luck

The glue dots worked well for me. No grease on the liners because they were foil.
