So I had to throw together a baby shower cake last week, since my friend suddenly realized she and her mother would both be in town at the same time (they used to both live here, and have since moved away to different states). We'd been trying to coordinate things for some time, and then saw the opportunity and seized it ... but my cake, as a consequence, was rather rushed and improvised. And, crazy from the icing fumes I'd been inhaling all day, I actually caught myself apologizing to the thing for not spending an appropriate amount of time on it. Apologizing! To CAKE!

Ahem.

Here is the aforementioned cake, if anyone's interested ....

I need to go have some human interaction now icon_wink.gif.

That cake is very cute! Doesn't look rushed at all. I did a last minute babyshower cake several months ago and I still think back on it and wonder how much better it could have been if only I had more time.

umm yeah, I talk to my cakes all the time. Sometimes I apologize when I get a little to rough with them...sometimes I threaten them when they don't play nice. I threatened this one that I was going to cover it with fondant if the buttercream didn't quit giving me problems and just smooth nicely.

I think it's those late nights alone with a cake that just make you go a little crazy. icon_redface.gif

It's when the cake talks back that you have to worry.

Patriciap, thanks so much! I also find myself scolding my fondant. But I'm actually pretty certain the fondant understands me. icon_wink.gif

I always talk to my cakes, though they are usually getting scolded for not cooperating. I also talk to my mixer, but she cooperates. My husband thinks I'm nuts. He's probably right. icon_biggrin.gif

Haha, I do it all the time and my boyfriend thinks I'm insane. I probably am insane for staying up odd hours in the day and night cake decorating on a daily basis. None of my cakes have dared to speak back to me, however they decide to retaliate instead. I figured out that being sweet to my cakes and motivating them actually helps them look prettier. I guess I'm a weirdo but hey, I love my job!

After reading through this thread I openly admit that I also talk to my cakes, and my tools, and my supplies and so forth. Then I sat back to think about the cake I did today and if I talked to it ... I think it was mostly cooperative. hehe. Thanks for the chuckles. =)
