Any suggestions on how to get the pumpkin shape for a cake? Maybe a bundt pan?

I use two bundt pans.....one upside down...one right side up. It works perfectly because it already has ridges! HTH!

Yes, I think two bundt pans put together would work for a 3D pumpkin. The sports ball pan will also work.....just carve small indents into it.

Agree on the two suntan thing. If you google carved pumpkin cake on you tube, e is a lady who made this and put the entire thing on there.

I need to clarify my last entry made days ago. I agree with you two on the bundt pan thing.

I really need to turn off that auto correct on my iPad. I have been leaving some very strange messages lately.

I think it would be cheaper and just as effective to use two bundts.

I just made one from the sports ball pan. Cut off a tiny slice from top of each round half; then put the two halfs together. I used dental floss to mark the cake into eighths then carved little "ditch" indentions on the lines. Iced lightly, then covered in fondant. While smoothing the fondant it was easy to push right into the indentions. Used a small leaf from a silk grape vine to trace and make the leaves. Turned out really cute. Just be sure to use a firm cake like a pound cake.

If you look on my Photo's you can see the pumpkin cake, it is made out of two bundt cakes, and iced with crusting buttercream, once crusted you can make the grooves with the side of your hand. I just place another piece of cake for the stem, and iced it. Then painted it with icing.
