Hi

I am making a halloween cake and I want the bottom tier to look like dirt underneath the gravestones. I was thinking that cake crumbs would give a great effect of dirt but I'm not sure of the best way to make the crumbs stick to a fondant layer.

I have chosen to make the layers from rolled fondant as I want to attach model worms and bones and nobody likes the marzipan layer if I was to use royal icing.

Does anyone have any ideas the best way to create this effect?

Thanks!
Nik

In my photos I have a six-tier sandcastle cake, and the entire surface was RTR fondant covered with biscuit (cookie) crumbs. I attached them with edible glue, but you could also use a similarly coloured RI.
