I charged her $105 ($3 per serving and she wanted 35 servings). Do you think that was too much for this. I usually don't have pricing regret but for some reason im not sure i priced this one fairly especially since it was for a family friend. If you don't think this was the appropriate price what should i have charged? Be honest it won't hurt my feelings. i posed the link to a pic of the cake below. Thanks!!

Don't worry about the price. I would have charged more. The cake is really cute and there is a lot of work on it. Usually I give family and friends 20 to 25% off what I would charge a client.

I think for 35 servings that was a more than appropriate price, yet I believe you provided over 50 servings (and could have charged even more).

No way, you did not overcharge. That's a sculpted cake, and they aren't usually priced as much per serving as they are for complexity of the cake. If you want to think of it this way, you probably should have charged more, so you actually did give her a family friend discount!

You definitely did not overcharge! That is an adorable cake and with all of the details, sculpting etc. I think that price was definitely fair!

Fondant cakes begin at $4 for me and 3D cakes begin at $5 so you gave her quite the break on this cake. Don't feel badly but also, next time price yourself accordingly, write that on the invoice and then give a 25% discount as a "friends/family rate" and then she'll know she's getting a discount due to relationship.

Very Very cute cake by the way!

the reason that you feel you overcharged is probably because you don't feel like your skills were challenged on this one. before I get flamed, let me explain. The cake is super cute and very well done, but it doesn't have a lot of the smaller details that say, your makeup cake did. This can make us think that it isn't as much work. It is as much work, just a different kind of work.

once you get comfortable in your skills and it takes you less time to do something that 6 months ago took you forever, it can be easy to feel like you are undercharging.

I love the cake you made! Very nice and "clean". I have pricing nightmares myself but I am getting a little better at it. As for the receipt breakdown, I breakdown everything on my receipts (ie Delivery, discounts, donations, vouchers, customization, added frills, cake). I think the customers like to see what they are getting for whatever the quote is I am providing.

whenever another caker asks this question, my standard answer is " No, you should have charged double!!!" And in this case, you deserved double....nice work!
