I'm in!! I posted a picture of the western wedding cake I did for my niece. She said 200 people. OK. So I hauled 60 pounds of carrot cake and 12 cheesecakes from southwest Colorado to Montana. I measured, figured and came up with what I thought was a decent amount considering it was to feed 200 cowboys/cowgirls. The main cake was never cut, just the 14" flat "emergency" cake and there were 4 cheesecakes left. OVERKILL!!

yep, I'm one of those that needs lots of room to decorate.

I find myself apologizing all the time...sorry I made your cake so big icon_redface.gif

But really, when you're just a hobby baker, how else are you supposed to learn and improve your skills?

Overcaker here. Everyone leaves our celebrations with a slab of cake. And I think if my neighbors see me coming with a wheel-barrow full of cake to give them ONE MORE TIME, I'll start seeing For Sale signs around me....there really CAN be too much of a good thing lol !!!

For family events at our house, not only is there the birthday/anniversary/celebration cake, but I make sure there's something chocolate AND vanilla, something low-fat (like angel food cake), something fruity (apple cake or pie), Jell-O for the Jell-O lovers, and cheesecake or brownies or cookies or whatever else I feel like making. It's not unusual for there to be a half dozen desserts. I've got my relatives trained to expect it, which is good for me because I love to bake (and eat the baked goods). And everybody takes stuff home.
And all along, my husband is telling me there's too much food, too much dessert, too much cake. He prefers meat and vegetables. (Opposites attract?)

I love to bake and to me it seems that there aren't enough chances. I am sure there are, but I can see that I am not the only one that has the attitude that you would rather have too much then not enough.

I also had to throw out the bottom layer of my parents 50th anniversary cake because we were flying home and had no where and no way to take that much cake home. unfortunately the party was the night before we were to fly home so there wasn't going to be enough opportunity to eat the rest of it. We did send some home with family that were close by, but we are talking lots of cake. I hated doing it, but no choice. I am also guilty of believing that because of so many different allergies and diabetics diets and so forth that everyone needs something they can have and not feel left out. So I make sure that there is something for everyone. If it is leftover and it is chocolate I can send it with my husband to work, but if it isn't chocolate there is a good bet it is still going to be leftovers for him to bring home.

I really like the idea that one lady said about that. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt....I know there was something else in there too. BUT it gave me an idea to make a t-shirt that said OVERCAKERS ANONYMOUS!! I AM A MEMBER(this would be on a second line.

I can also go overboard when it comes to complexity of design. Why do an easy cake when you can stay up all night sweating over a new idea that isn't working as planned?!! icon_lol.gif

Ditto to every part. My last cake (princess cake) was the only one I have made so far that wasn't excessively big. The mother begged that I not make a cake that would feed double the number of people. I barely restrained myself.

As it was if she hadn't cut monster pieces there would have been a ton left over and I was standing there the whole time watching her thinking "There isn't going to be enough cake, quit cutting such huge pieces! OMG icon_eek.gif we're going to run out of cake!!! icon_cry.gif "

We didn't - barely. That was cutting it close (ba-dum-bum), almost jumped out of my skin in panic. icon_wink.gif
