I guess I have yet to see one of these cakes. Does anyone have a pic?

I found this one and I think they are pretty cute and obviously everyone knows you are still eating cake it isn't like you are actually eating a body part. There are more distasteful things out there that's for sure.

i just think that if ur in bussiness and a customer asks for something that she likes and u do that kind of work ( thats y ur in business) then the customer should get what they want even if u dont like what they order

I couldn't DISagree more. Just because you make/decorate cakes doesn't mean you do every single kind of cake style/flavor/type under the sun. If that was the case there would only be need of ONE cake store with many locations all over the world.. kinda like McDonald's.. ya know??

And while we're on the subject of McDonald's.. using your logic, since they make things with beef, potatoes, lettuce and tomatoes do you think you could go in there and order a Steak, baked potato and a big side salad? No? Why not--they make beef and potatoes, they have lettuce and tomatoes!!

Because they don't make THAT kind of meal---so you go where they do.

well the customer went to where they make cakes to order a cake the owner did`s say she don`t MAKE thoes cakes, she said she DOSE`T LIKE thoes cakes.

I guess I just don't understand the problem! I've done four of these type of cakes in the last year, it's my most requested shower cake. The clients love them for their "cuteness" and I've never once thought it was creepy! After all it is just cake and icing! I know it and the client knows it! If you are in the position to turn down this type of order than do so, it is after all your business!!

I don't see it creepy, I just see them really ugly and tacky.
Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie.

Nobody has to do anything they don't want to do. If you own your own business you're in the position of being able to turn down cakes that you don't want to do. I turn down cakes all the time, whether becasue they're asking for a copyrighted character, an adult cake (which I really don't feel like dealing with) or just something that I think is crazy (Some woman asked for a 4 foot tall cake shaped like her daughter.)

Just because someone asks you for something doesn't mean that you have to do it. You're a cake decorator, not a cake slave. And until they've given you a deposit they're not really your customer anyway, they're just a shopper.

I don't see the problem with them, personally. I think they're kinda cute - although I've never thought of it as anything more than a cute cake (I've never considered that one is "eating half of a baby", in other words). Of course there are things that one person finds "cute" and another person finds "creepy". If that's the design the customer wants, I don't think you should try to change her mind. However, you have every right to say "I'm not available that day; I'm sorry" and move on. This is regarding any cake you don't feel comfortable with. My comfort level has not yet been pressed, but I don't think I'd have a problem turning it down should that happen.

I have to do one next week and I personally don't think they are cute and don't want to do it. But I have had several requests and always priced them really high so I won't have to do it. This customer is willing to pay the price, so I am going to do it. I have different taste and would never order one, but we all have different taste and just because I don't like it, doesn't mean I shouldn't do it. For example, I hate the color purple and hate when people order a purple cake. But I do it, because that is what they want icon_smile.gif
