Last year I bought the large 5 quart mixer as a gift to myself. I have always thought something just wasn't right. When you turned it on, it hesitated for a sec before it would start.

Well today I am mixing a cake and turned it on low. The paddle started turning and then it stopped. Within 5 seconds it then started again and kicked into to high speed. It threw batter and flour all over my kitchen. Now when you turn it on, it automatically goes to high speed nothing else.

Has anyone had this issue before. Obviously I am contacting kitchenaid, but wanted to see if anyone has been through this before.

I hope you are making progress with KA. My 6 quart has a feature called soft start. At each speed it takes a second to come to full speed, this is to prevent ingredients from splashing out and flour puffing up at startup. Not sure if this is the hesitation you had from the start. It doesn't help your malfunctioning machine, but may explain the hesitation. Hope you can get it repaired or replaced by KA.

It's a known problem with KAs. They really aren't nearly as good as they used to be.

I am still using the KA that I got for our wedding 17 yrs ago. I've heard enough problems with the new ones that I am dreading having to ever replace mine.
Sorry to hear about yours. icon_sad.gif

I just got a 7 quart Cuisinart and I love it. In the same price range as KA. I have seen others mention Kenwood.

I think that I heard my KA cough the other day. It might be time to have a replacement in mindicon_wink.gif
