I need to make a beer can cake which features a gold metallic end where the ring pull sits. Can anyone advise on the best way to colour fondant metallic gold because I've tried using edible liquid colour before and it wasn't a good effect.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - Thanks! icon_biggrin.gif

Did you paint it on or knead it into the fondant? It should work just fine airbrushing it on or painting it on... sometimes it needs two coats.

colour your fondant yellow first, if you can. you can use lustre dust mixed with alcohol to paint on.

I like to use ivory with a touch of golden yellow and then paint 2 coats of gold dust

Thanks guys. brincess_b, when you say mix with alcohol, do I just mix to a paste? And can I use any alcohol? x

Vodka works well (evaporates).
Clear vanilla or lemon juice works too.

adding different amounts of alcohol will give different effects (thickness of colour mainly) so you might need to play around to find what you want. always add much less to start with!
