I have heard of brides posting on Craigs List, but never thought I would receive an email like this. Most of my brides put my name in their programs ANYWAY while still paying full price for thier cake (some of them told me that they knew EVERYONE would be asking who made the cake, and wanted to save them having to say it 100 times! haha!) Anyway, I think this is really sad that a complete stranger would write this email, and for a June Wedding yet!! I guess they have guts! (I told them, sorry, I dont have such a program and good luck!)

"My fiancee and I are planning a budget wedding in (took city out) and someone suggested to me that some bakeries and dress shops are willing to be a sponsor of a wedding if they can advertise their product at the wedding. I wanted to know if your bakery did stuff like this. If so, we are 23 and have lots of friends on the guest list in the area who have been dating for awhile and who might get married in the near future. Would you consider providing the wedding cake for our wedding in June if you would be allowed to advertise that you provided the cake?"

But you could "sponsor" all their friends wedding also! Think about what "great advertising" it would be.

We are 23 and the world is about to slap us upside the head with a heaping dose of reality...

Good luck, 23-year-olds!

Didn't Starr Jones (that annoying TV person) brag about she did this?

She had a huge wedding before her short-lived marriage and used "sponsors" to cover most of the costs and then sold the pic rights to a celeb magazine.

Give me a break! Maybe YOU could sponsor my kid's braces by PAYING for your damned wedding cake!

OR....Maybe I should tell the orthodontist if he'll "sponsor" the braces, we'll tell everyone we know - many of whom have kids that need braces - that our kid's teeth are straight because of him!!! thumbs_up.gif Hell, I could go through life for free by making deals like this!

Providing a free cake for a celebrity wedding that will get unprecedented press is one thing; quite different for these cheapos whose friends will also demand a free cake! Sad thing is, some decorator will fall for this.

Yep, The first thing that came to mind when I read the subject line was Starr Jones--she apparently thought she was ALL THAT and anyone and everyone would gladly give her whatever she wanted. I was really disgusted when I read that, and took it personally as a cake lady!!

Re: the 23 yr old of the OP--just goes to show people expect everything handed to them because, hey why not, I read somewhere that was a good idea.

Get a grip!

If I were you, I would offer to sponsor their wedding in exchange for a 10% discount off the total cost of their order. When you quote them a price, just make sure it's 12% higher than you would normally charge.

bahahahah!!!! For some reason Im lead to believe that broke 23 year olds would hang out with broke 23 year olds so sponsoring them would only say 'hey check this out we got free cake and so can you'

Is there another article going around on how to get an elegant wedding done on the cheap? Next thing she will want to come and "help" you with her cake for a discount. Had a young woman ask that when I worked at a grocery bakery.

I'd make her pay extra....1) for me teaching her decorating skills, and 2) for being in my way!

Not so much being in my way or teaching her as it is how weird is that? Do you go into ANY store and ask to help them for a discount???? I mean if that is the case, I need to find the meat market where this works. I need a discount on meat this year - hubby can't hunt!

The best part of this is its in JUNE. Cause ya know, NO ONE gets married in JUNE! And we have nothing better to do than give away free cake in JUNE. Not that giving away cake was an option, but JUNE?!!

Here's my snappy answer to that stupid question -

"Sorry, but I already sponsor a child in a third world nation. I simply cannot afford another one."

I say this because they really Must be living in LaLaLand.

The best time to sponsor them would be in June so you can order in bulk and won't feel the extra bite in expenses, right??? icon_mad.gif

haha! That was my thought too...Ok, do your wedding for free....brag to all your friends how this bakery will do your wedding for free! So my phone starts ringing "hey I hear you do weddings for free! WIll you sponser me now??"

Do bakeries, dress shops, etc, really DO this for people???!??
Even if I was just starting, I wouldn't do this!!

There was an interesting story in the news recently about a bride who allegedly FAKED cancer so she could guilt people into giving her the wedding of her dreams. She even duped the groom, according to the reports. She got free flowers and gown, and deeply discounted catering arrangements.
She stomped all over the kindness of people.

We got the same email from the same bride. I responded to her, "Unless you are a celebrity and the cake will be seen on national television, I can't imagine an professional baker taking you up on your offer. Good luck with your wedding planning."
