...of BUTTER!!! It has gone sky high here in the past few weeks. I buy my butter at Costco. I always bought 4 pounds for between $6 and $7 dollars. I went last week to buy some for cookies and 4 pounds had gone up to $9.95. My mother in law told me she was paying $5.50 for a pound at the grocery store. What is going on? Milk has not gone up....I don't understand it. Any ideas????

I KNOW!!!!! Last year I was buying four lbs of butter at Sam's for just over six bucks. The past year its been hovering around 8 bucks...last week it was over $9!!!!!! I'm like...HUH?????
I think its more than baking season.....ugh....something must be wrong with some dairies or the government adding extra fees and stuff on them or something. Or maybe due to the salmonella scare, farms are having to pay extra money for inspections or remodel or...? But then that was eggs and not butter.
I was just complaining about it today...making my list for errands tomorrow and knowing I have to buy like 8 lbs of butter....

The bad thing is, I'm so used to the Sam's butter that when I use a different kind (like a generic grocery brand) I can tell the difference in my buttercream and I don't like it as well.... *sigh*
Well hopefully prices will go down...?
I'm hoping Sam's has their Ghiridelli melting chocolate out for Christmas already...I need to dip some berries this week!!!!

This is funny. I bought a package of butter once from Sam's because I figured I would use it up quickly. I'm a hobby baker, but I still bake quite often. Well, not as often as I thought I would. Next time I needed butter I just bought a pound from Rainbow. I got the generic Rainbow brand and noticed the wrappings on the sticks were the exact same from Sam's. I had to wonder if it was the same butter, just packaged in different boxes.
Oh, and last time I bought butter was from Target. Land O Lakes. $4.65 a pound if I remember correctly.

Oh...I'm sure Sam's isn't the only place that sells that particular butter....but I haven't found the other places yet. haha.
I've been buying the solids anyway, not sticks...its a little cheaper at Sam's that way.

Info from today's shopping trip.
Butter- 1 lb. sticks- $2.19 at Aldi, $2.99 at Meijer. I was paying $1.99 this summer at Aldi or on sale at Meijer.
The rest of these are Aldi prices.
AP flour, 5 lb.- $1.25
Granulated sugar, 5 lb.- $2.39
Powdered sugar, 2 lb.- $1.29
Eggs, dozen large- $1.38
I stocked up on the butter, and bought a couple bags each of the rest just in case the price is going up. These prices are for Central Ohio.
