I am trying to make a ball and chain cake for a grooms cake for tomorrow I used the ball pan from Wilton had them baked with the WASC recipe filled with whipping cream and cherry pie filling. The cake cracked in half!!! I have never done a ball cake before and am not sure what the issue could be. I thought maybe WASC is too dense and that the filling is to heavy.?? This is just speculation on my part.

The worst part is is that I have no number for the bride to talk about an alternative whether it be a different flavor or different design. I emailed but she has been known to not respond for days and this is the night before her wedding so she is probably busy. She has been very difficult to get details straight and just to hear back from her for months. I am pulling my hair out here and need some help. TIA

i used that pan for a bowling cake just a few weekends ago and didn't have great results. Mine ended up cracking because I kept having to move it due to other issues...however the cake held up fine even though it was compromised....

Did you:

Remove cake from oven and cool on cake rack for 10 minutes. While the cake is still in the pan, carefully slice off the raised center portion of the cake. This allows the cake to sit more level and helps prevent cracking.

Can u get a styrofoam piece? Either to make up half the cake, or the whole cake, and do a simple cutting cake to make up the servings?
