I am a 12" round cake 3 layers.
When I filled and stacked the layers I can see where I am going to have to end cutting the cake board to fit the cake once I have finished trimming.
How do you cut you board to get a nice round shape ?
Please any help the cake is for this weekend
Once I am finished trimming it would appear to my eye that a 12" would be too big and a 10" to small

I assume you're covering the cake with fondant? Cuz if you were using buttercream, you'd want the board a little bigger than your cake.
If you're using cardboard cake circles, trace around your cake, then cut with a pair of scissors.
If you're using foamboard, trace around your cake, then cut with an Xacto knife.

Yes I am ... But what if it is already down on the cake board ?
Well i guess I could trim trace flip it onto a cookie sheet ... cut the board and then flip it back on !!!
I have a drywall circle cutter I use to cut cake boards, makes perfect circles but does leave a little hole in the center. I just cover them with freezer paper as someone on here suggested.

Yup. Next time, use your bottom tier to measure the board before you fill and stack.
I've seen old school decorators extend the cake slightly over the edge of the counter and cut the cardboard with a serrated knife. Looks scary, dangerous and unhygienic to me!
When I have to trim a cake board to match the circle I use my husband's box cutter. I plan on buying an exacto knife for my next cake however if you have nothing but a box cutter laying around it works. That or scissors.
