I made one after watching a cowgirl hat tutorial but the hat brim I made looks so puney! I am making the Mad Hatter's hat. I just tried adding an attachment but not sure if it worked.
So I am wondering if any of you have any ideas? I was thinking I could possibly form rkt or even cake around the bottom of the tier to create a more bulky brim.

I used gumpaste. folded the edge of brim under to give that thicker look, and placed rolled up pieces of plastic wrap under the edge so it would dry in position. (Yes, I removed the plastic wrap after letting dry overnight). icon_wink.gif

Macsmom,
Thanks for postingicon_smile.gif So do you use gumpaste for the whole brim? I am thinking that is A LOT of gumpaste but maybe I am doing mine differently. I used only fondant and the sides dried nicely in that curve but it looks super thin. I may try and fold them under right now...think it is still soft enough. THANK YOU!

Here's an article on how to make a cowboy hat. It tells you about the brim.

I just took a class from bronwen weber and she uses cardboard covered in fondants or gumpaste. Of course we did a witches hat and it was more flat, and obvoiusly wasn't edible icon_biggrin.gif HTH

I think I did add MMF, but not as much as 50/50 because my cowboy hat flopped at that ratio. I rolled out a strip, folded it in half, rolled the area that would be right next to the hat thinner, then wrapped it around the main part of the hat.

Macsmom, uh..your cake is FAB!!! Awesome!!!! That def helps me.icon_smile.gif
Thank you ladies so much for your help. I should have started this brim awhile back. The cake is due this Sat afternoon. I may have to go with the cardboard covered in fondant if I can't get mine to dry in time. I guess a cardboard cake plate will work fine.
Thank you again so much!!!
