YES, I put sugar and water to boil to make simple syrup for my spray bottle and walked away and got on the computer to catch up on Cake Central posts...
I smell something..like CARAMEL...by the time my son and I figured out what it was..too late...
smoke filled my little rooms and set off the fire alarm which could be heard throughout the hotel!
Thank goodness it was around 4 pm, and not in the middle of the night!! The guy that runs the hotel came running down and we were up on chairs fanning the smoke alarm!!
Thank goodness the sprinklers didn't go off..What a mess THAT would've been
LOL!!! Be careful! Cake Central is addictive for me, too! I'm glad that it all worked out!
Don't feel bad Risque..you are in good company. About a month ago, I left my Wilton plastic turntable on the stove top. I some how accidently bumped the burner knob. A few minutes later while I was in my computer room, I smelled something God awful. Then there was the smoke and then the smoke alarm went off. Needless to say, the turntable was mush when I got to it. My glass stove top is still a mess.
You know when you're gettin old....
Sandy
Yes, we know when we're getting old..unfortunately...this was a HOWARD JOHNSON hotel and not my little apartment..
THEN...the guys says...we have to open some windows down here..
I was like..Um..did you forget we're in the basement?
Then I pull out my fan from the kitchen that I keep on to keep that room cool...and he's like..WE NEED MORE FANS.!!!
(I"m thinking to myself...and where an I supposed to keep them..ugh..lol)
I always use my digital remote thermometer with the alarm for sugar work or if I just leave the room and leave a pot of water to boil. It keeps me from having these problems. I get distracted easily and this mothod has saved me several tmes..
