I may be totally over thinking this.

I have a cake coming up next week that consists of a 10" cake 4" high, 8" cake 8" high and a 6" cake 4" high.
I plan on making each 8" cake 4" tall and then stacking them on top of each other. I use bubble tea straws as support so I will put those between the two cakes too.
Where I am struggling is when it comes to icing. Do I ice each cake and then stack or stack then ice? I know I will have to cover a seam if I ice then stack. If I stack then ice do I still put a thin layer of buttercream between the cakes, otherwise some peoples cakes won't have icing on top.

If anyone has done this please let me know how you did this and any suggestions you have to make it easy.

I haven't done this, but I say say one thing. I wouldn't trust bubble tea straws for support.

I use bubble tea straws for 90% of my cakes. I have used SPS before (I know that is what you recommend) but I don't really like it. If the cake is over 4 tiers I will use something stronger than straws.

I would ice each cake seperatley and then stack. its not too difficult to hide a seam, and it would be far easier doing it this way. good luck!

If I'm reading this correctly I would ice then stack, but it'd make sure that between each cake was icing, its the glue and just more customary to have icing between all layers...especially because unless you're cutting this beast, you dont know how it will be cut for sure.

Anywho, I have to agree with Leah....I'd never use straws for this cake! That to me just screams disaster waiting to happen.
