Baker's Block In Regards To Cake Construction.
Decorating By pursuing_perfection Updated 16 Sep 2010 , 3:19am by pursuing_perfection
Have you seen the August 2010 Cake Central Magazine? I love the cake on the cover. (Click on the magazine tab and check it out if you haven't already). Does anyone know what is used for the "tube" (decorated with lattice and 2 butterflies)? Is it a cake, or some sort of support column covered in fondant? I have a customer that wants a similar cake, and any ideas that I have come up with are not structurally sound. HELP!
Hi Ursula:
Sorry you are having problems with your magazine subscription. You can still look at the cover on this site. I know you want to see more than the cover...but right now, the cover picture is what I am interested in.
Alan explains how he decorated the cake at: http://www.globalsugarart.com/instruction_sheets/2010_08_05_JBZ666T4_CakeCentralInstructions.htm
I read through and he really doesn't say. I have used 2" cake dummies for dividers. I would think that you could use a 4" H 6" round dummy for the divider. JMHO
Thanks! I never thought of cake dummies. And I could easily put a dowel through for stability, too. Unfortunately it is too late for this cake, but I am sure it will come in handy on another one.
