Oh, I have to vent. sorry this is long.

I am just about to open my shop. It has been a long summer a lot of money invested. I am down to the final inspector.

I have not taken any cake orders in the last two weeks, because I have moved all of my equipment from my home to my new shop. I had a (Friend) call and ask me to do a 3-D car cake. I told her NO. She proceeded to tell me details of what she wanted. Two days later she calls and tells me flavors. I told her that I was not doing any cakes at this time. I was going through inspections. She called four days later and said to make sure the car had a license plate with a certain saying. I told her No.
two days ago she chased me down at a gas station. To see what time she should pick up her cake the next day.
I said I told you I am not doing the cake. I then told her it was two of my kids birthdays and they were not even getting a cake. Why would I do hers and mess anything up on passing the inspections.
I told my family if she called in the morning not to answer the phone.
Well believe it or not she called."What time should I pick up the cake"

Needless to say That was Sunday eve. I just saw her and she said thanks for ruining her party. I just walked away, idiot.Does she really think I spent the whole summer doing construction all that money to inspectors to make her a $100.00 cake that she would say I charged to much.

I'm with kansaslaura. You might need a restraining order, possibly a lawyer.

Are you one of those non-confrontational types that hints around about something instead of coming right out and saying it? Did you hint around that you weren't sure you would have the time or something like that? I don't understand how you could tell someone no so many times and they still don't get it.

The only way I can see this going exactly as you claim is if the person in question is completely psychotic, or you weren't firm or clear in your responses. You need to be firm - "no means no" (bad touch! heh).

I'm sure her thought process is something like......

'oh, you could just throw this together real quick for me, right?..... It's only a car, it shouldn't take you that long to do.'

Yeah, you kinda just plucked my exact thoughts from my brain. I didnt want to say it but....lol...yeah, something doesnt seem right. I just dont understand how you can flat out look someone in the eye, tell them "NO, Im not doing it." And then they are like, "so Ill pick it up tomorrow, right?" Is it possible you werent as clear as you thought you were? Or maybe she is just really nuts. I mean she'd have to be if you were as clear and upfront as you say. No matter, really. I wouldnt call her a friend if that is the case.

Congrats on the shop, lots of luck sent your way icon_biggrin.gif

The same thing happened to me this week, must be something in the air. Was called on Wednesday for a cake that would take more time than I had available, so I had to decline, the lady says "Well it's only Wednesday, and I don't need the cake until Saturday, that sounds like enough time to me!" I had already explained that I had a prior commitment today and was not doing any baking, she says o.k, well since you can't make the BIG cake for the party, just make a small one. icon_confused.gif I was at a complete loss, how else can you say NO!? princess.gif

LOL! Sorry that's just funny! It must be a busy time of year! Im totally booked for the rest of September and October is filling up really fast. Uh, no, sorry. 3 days isnt enough notice!!!! lol. I had a lady basically beg me to do a cake for her saturday. She called me wednesday and told me I was her last hope because no other bakery could do it for her on such short notice! So...I took it. I wasnt going to...it being my birthday and all. lol! But hey. I can squeeze it in before the cookout and make $100 to buy myself a present. icon_smile.gif
