Hi their. My girlfriend has asked me to make her wedding cake. She's getting married at Christmas and wants a simple one layer cake wrapped with a bow. I have two issues. 1. Really no idea how to get gold fondant without painting it with luster dust. that seems like a lot of luster dust to use, and I'm afraid the color will be too much. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also she wants Petit Fours for the guests. Not sure how to get a gold look using a poured fondant.

your other option would be to airbrush is gold.

remember how much work petit fours are - id only do them for my closest friend if she was right there doing it with me.

if you colour your fondant (for the cake or the petit fours) yellow, then it is easier to add the gold on top. air brushing usually looks best, and i would hate to hand paint (although maybe dipping would work too?) petit fours.

Thanks for the advice! I don't own an air brush machine. Do you have any suggestions? I can't afford a lot and I've seen one advertised on sugarcraft.com I think it was called the AGS and it was about $130. But I don't know if it's any good.

you can paint on the air brush colour too. or else its either dry dusting lustre dust, or mixing it with alcohol and painting.

I think there are aerosol type of paint sprays available now. I don't know if they have gold but it might be worth looking in to.

Thanks Shannon, I'll check it out. Do you know what company offers them?

Michaels sells some airbrush machines in there art section and there is one made by the company badger that uses aerosal cans for $30 I think and I forgot how much the cans are. It has a little glass jar that you put your food coloring into. Im planning on getting one very soon with a 40% off coupon, until I can save up enough money to get a more professional one. I bought an aerosal can (Duff's line) of silver last week which I thought was a life saver for a wedding cake that I had and the can clogged on me after 10 seconds of spraying thumbsdown.gif , so I would suggest getting a back up can just in case if you go with the aerosal food coloring...HTH icon_smile.gif

The edible lustre sprays are great. You can use yellow fondant and spray it with bronze or even pearl. Gives a great gold!
Good luck!
