So I'm a new baker. It's been my passion for 2 years now and I'm only 13. Just picture this my 3rd cake I ever made, batter tastes great, put them in the oven and what i find out 35 mins. later is I accidently turned on the broiler instead of the oven. Only the outside cooked. Luckly i was able to scoop out the middle and put a filling in it. WHAT A DISASTER!!!!!!!!!! I hope you can learn from this mistake icon_lol.gif

Hey, you took a disaster and made a success out of it.
You're wise beyond your 13 years!

Lol!! That happened to me before but the electronics in my oven went and just the broiler turned on. I had the oven full to capacity and everything burnt, the room was filled with smoke and all the smoke alarms were going off. I had to redo every thing!!.. Sucks don't it!!

Way to think fast!!! thumbs_up.gif I had a similar disaster before; I was making garlic cheese toast for a dinner party and instead of "broil" I turned the oven to "clean" oops! Mine wasn't anywhere near saveable! Lol!

Wow, good job on saving what you could icon_smile.gif
Well I'm twice your age and I put the oven on too high and burnt the outside of my cake, and the inside didn't cook even all the way through. But I figured since I had already spoiled it, I wouldn't cook it any longer.
Luckily for me, it was only for class and I was able to decorate it, just not eat it.
Well I won't do that again will I!

Marissa, welcome to CC. My goodness, I wish I had started at 11. I sure hope you still have your passion for cake when you graduate, so maybe you will decide to go to culinary school. Imagine how much knowledge you will have over your classmates. If you really do have the passion for caking, stick around and soak up everything you can read. There is more valuable info here than you will ever get from home ec or college. Nice recovery on the cake too. Always remember to have fun with it...that's what it is all about.

great save! I wouldn't have thought of that!

My disaster-at-age-13 was boiling eggs. Did you know ...... ? that if you forget about them while watching TV that the water will boil off and the eggs will explode? All over the ceiling? Guess how I found that out? icon_redface.gif

It's a big joke in my family about "it's a wonder Debi became a caterer considering that she can't even boil an egg!" icon_lol.gif

It's so nice to hear of a younger person baking. I have only been decorating cakes for about 1 1/2 years and I find this website invaluable. There is always an answer to a question I have. And I get ideas decorating ideas from looking in the galleries.

Have fun!

My Granddaughter was born in 1997 and is 13 years old also and she LOVES to help me make cupcakes and cakepops. I always tell her if I open a cake shop, she's going to the head of the cupcake department!

Keep up the good work!
