Ive been asked to make 100 cupcakes for a little girls birthday party, she only wants the cake though and no decor, (boring) I have no idea how much to charge.
Well that is unusual! I charge $1.50 per cupcake w/swirl of icing and sprinkles so would probably drop to $.75 or $1. I would not use my regular cupcake boxes though (for me they are expensive!!) I would use a regular bakery box.

Don't be nervous about 100 cupcakes! That is basically 4 cake mixes and 4 20-minute sessions of baking @ 325 (I bake 2 12-cavity pans at a time). I don't mind cupcakes at all, they are easy peasy!! Well, unless you have elaborate decorations on each one.

Yep...100 cupcakes is no biggie. I'm just a hobby baker, but I routinely bake 6-12 dozen cupcakes for local charities. I can get them baked, swirled, boxed & delivered in an afternoon and still be home in time to clean up the mess before supper --lucky me
I can understand the mother asking for plain cupcakes w/o icing...you know some kids get super hyper from sugar....and 100 hyper kids could be a riot! When my DD was in preschool, they had a "no icing" policy for birthday cupcakes.

I have 400 to do first week of Oct. with decor....I am mortified!
This title scared me at first as I too am a hobby baker, but I will be making 1000 cupcakes in November so this will take me a whole day.....still a daunting task for one person in an apartment, but as this is my passion I say bring it on. And if the mom wants plain cupcakes then less work for you...but I'd charge at least $1. Good luck.
I get some good advice from this forum but what I also get is a right old laugh. Im still arguing the price of these cakes Im afraid, I live in England so Im really sorry I dont understand the $'s, I only understand £'s I think the Mom herself is going to decorate them so I know its not part of the party, I have said to her does she realise the time consumption regarding decor of them. I guess if I charge her £1.00 per cake she wont want me, so Im pondering on the idea of 30p each, does that sound dreadful? xxxx
30p each sounds fine to me....of course, I have no idea how much money that is, since I only know $'s....!! Seriously, just make sure you cover your costs completely and get something for your time......don't cut yourself short.....

I just did 300 last night (took me 3 1/2 hours) and thought I was going to go cross eyed. I have a full size double oven and had a pretty good process going that made it seem to go quickly. I couldn't even imagine how to transport 1000 cupcakes.
As for the price, I think I would charge $.75 each.
I have gotten so used to making large amounts of cupcakes. When people order only a dozen or two, I look at them like their crazy.
I have a commercial oven I can bake 96 at one time. It great.

I just did 300 last night (took me 3 1/2 hours) and thought I was going to go cross eyed. I have a full size double oven and had a pretty good process going that made it seem to go quickly.
Sorry to get a little off the original topic here but malene541 are you saying that you have a home full sized (meaning you can fit a full sheet pan?) double oven or a full sized stacked commercial oven? Just curious, what pans you used...12, 24 or 35s? All the same flavor? How did you mix...how many batches? Does the 3.5 hours include icing them? How did you calculate how much buttercream? How do you transport that quantity? Just curious as I stated above, I have 400 for a wedding plus a 6&8 stacked and 400 cake truffels (and possibly a grooms cake...that is on the back burner right now). I have never done so much all together and I am panicing. I have 2 commercial kitchens to work from and I am trying to decide which I should use. One is close to the event and belongs to my Godmother (and I would have help from my mom as she lives there too). The other is in my home town and I would be doing it myself and then transporting them 3 hrs.
The comm kitchen I use has 3 ovens, 2 wall units and one as part of the stove. They are a bit larger than a residential oven but look like residential ovens. I can bake 6 doz in each oven so 18 dozen in one fell swoop. So 216 cupcakes standard sized. Twice that many mini cuppies.

If it were me I would bake all the cake at my local comm kitchen and freeze it. Then do the decorating at the comm kitchen closest to the venue.
