i stick a toothpick in them befor they dry. when they get dry i brush the bottom with tylo glue and stick in on the cake with the toothpick stuck in the cake
I glue a wooden skewer on the back (Cut down to size or course)I use the wilton cookie icing to glue it...works everytime!!
I use a small flat craft stick-like a skinny popsicle stick. When I have used toothpicks or skewers, the weight of the letter can pull the little round toothpick right through the cake, and the letter/number falls over.
You just have to put the stick up through the letter/number while it is still soft.

I do this too. But I like kiddiekakes idea. Sometimes pushing the toothpick in the number distortes the shape of the number.
I also use a wooden skewer cut to size. I just did this a month ago and for the life of me, I can't remember what I used as "glue" lol. It was either my crusting BC or piping gel or corn syrup. After I "glue" the skewer on and it is somewhat dry, I cover the part of the skewer that is on the number with fondant to make it a little more secure. Hope this makes sense.
