I am making a fondant pregnant woman for a cake topper for friend's shower. While working with the fondant, I find that it is collapsing, or sinking so that my little lady now looks like she has osteoporosis. What am I doing wrong? Does the fondant stiffen and keep shape leaving it in the air to dry? I've never made a fondant figure before and this cake is to be for next weekend.
I need help!!

I have done several prgnant lady cake toppers but I use gumpaste. I always do the trunck of the body first and let that part dry and stiffen, then I attach the head, legs, dress, arms and hair last. I find that if I don't do the body first and let that get very firm, the body tends to droop but I always use gumpaste as I find the fondant is not stiff enough. Good luck hope this helps.

you can also add a little tylose to the fondant to make it stronger.

I mix fondant and g/p or add the tylose to the fondant.

I have also noticed as the figure dried over night that the arms and face have cracks and wrinkles. My little lady looks like she is 100 years old instead of a young woman with child. I used Wilton pre made fondant, skin toned. Any suggestions?

I've done on fondant lady. Do the trunk of her body first then prop her up against a wall or something and let her dry.

I've done two prego figures and both times used tylose mixed with marshmallow fondant...they both kept their shape perfectly.

Also, I always microwave my fondant a little before modeling so it's nice and smooth and dries crack-free.

I am absolutely astounded that you made that beautiful tote out of marshmallow fondant and tylose. You are amazing!!! Thanks for the advice. I am going to try again.
