Hi all! I'm looking for suggestions on how to keep the wired petals from moving around after you tape them onto the stem of a gumpaste flower?

Once all the petals are on and in place it looks great until I try to place it on the counter or a cake. On the side that is resting on the surface, all of the petals get pushed together. I was thinking that maybe putting some royal icing where each petal meets the stem might help, but wanted to see if there was a better method...

Are you taping all the petals together at once or seperately? In my limited experince if I try to tape too many on at one, they do not hold their places for me.

Also why not stick the stem into some stryofoam so they aren't laying on their side.

Yea, I'll try taping each one separately. If I'm just putting a single flower on the top of the cake, how would I hide the Styrofoam?

You wouldn't, I meant when you are setting them aside.

Hopefully someone can give you advice when putting them on the cakes and how to get the petals to stay where you need. I'm not sure on that one.

Can you put a straw in the cake, and put the stem wires in that, and bend the wire so it is tilted to the side, but not actually laying on the cake?

Yea that's what I was just thinking. I think putting a straw in the cake at a slant and just sticking the stem in the straw will work... Good thinking!
