Rice Krispie treat DISASTER!!!

Oh my....I made my second spiderman bust cake today and it looked AWESOME...Had made the head out of Rice Krispies....came home tonight and the whole thing was cracked and busting out all over...looked like someone hit spidey in the head with a baseball bat!....Why did this happen and how could I have prevented it?

Now I get to spend my whole saturday morning going to get more icing and cake items and redoing the whole head and icing job!!!!!

sounds like their wasn't enough marshmallow in your batch icon_sad.gif so sorry

A couple weeks ago I mixed up some RKT and made a space ship that was crashing, so it had to stand on an angle. http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1764674 It went together perfectly, setup perfectly, I cut my angles perfectly. I covered it with bc, then put on my fondant. As I went to put it on the cake, it literally fell apart in my hands, as though I had just a handful of krispies, no marshmallows. I was near panicked. I realized it must have been the heat and humidity. I used the same exact RKT, used what I had in my hand, plus more from the bowl and began again. This time, after it setup in the fridge, I painted the whole thing with melted candy melts (not chocolate which would have still melted on me). Everything else was the same: same heat, same humidity, same RKT batch, same design...... but this time, it stayed together perfectly. So, if you have any candy melts around, I'd suggest putting that under the bc and fondant. Hope this helps, and I'm sorry you've had this problem.
