Has anyone made this recipe? if you have is it supossed to be bitter??

I made them last night and followed the recipe to the T, the cupcakes turned out bitter like if i had not added any sugar to them....it calls for unsweatened cocoa powder and unsweatened melted baking chocolate and 3/4 of a cup of brown sugar. What happened here?
