Hello,

does anyone use anything else beside cardboard to ice their cakes on? i was thinking about using foam board but not sure of thickness to use.
where can i get them pre cut? when you do your price list do you add the cost to the customer?

would really love to hear what everyone is using icon_wink.gif

Thanks

For me, it depends on how heavy the cake is. A lot of times, I do use foamcore. I get mine at Hobby Lobby and they will cut them to whatever size you want (in the framing department) for .50 cents a cut.

Any craft store, such as Michael's should have it. Or any place that sells art supplies. You might also be able to talk a picture frame shop into selling you a sheet. When I'm making a lot of cakes, I buy it by the case online. I'm not making so many these days, so I watch the sales at the craft stores and buy a few sheets at a time. It's great stuff.

Also remember the foam board isn't food safe so you need to cover it in something like press and seal first. I am just lazy so I double or triple up my cardboards, glue or tap them together and I do cover them with press and seal so they stay together better.

I also so at Hobby Lobby they have coroplast cake boards which are water and grease proof. I still think I'd need to double them for strength.
