Helping Katrina Survivors : Cake Central Style - Page 3

You guys are going to make me cry!! That is just so sweet of you to do.. I can't tell you how much these poeple need help... I've been working in the emergency shelters for 9 days in a row and I can't see any end in sight... I cannot tell you how heartbreaking it is to have to sit and hold someone's hand while they cry telling you they've lost everything .. so many got seperated from their families and can't find them .. they have no idea if they're dead or alive .. they finally got me a computer connected and I've put every patient we have in our shelter into the Red Cross system, the MSNBC system and a few others that we felt would hopefully get viewed by some family member... we've had several tearful reunions with families ... so many people in our community have come to the aid for these individuals with help buying needed supplies, clothing and even paying for airline tickets to flying them to their relatives in other parts of the United States ...

Please remember to pray for all the victims of this devastating hurricane... it will be months and maybe years before all of them will have homes again.

Cheryl,
I'm praying for you too! I know that you are under an emotional rollercoaster. You didn't get hit by the hurricane (me either) but it is still having the same effect on you as it does on the hurricane victims. I know I'm feeling the same way you are. I have several people staying here with my family. They are helping me out anyway they can but they still feel that it is not enough & feel that they are empossing on our family. We are glad to help out!! It's all from the heart. Like your doing all this from your heart!!!!! I pray when you hold someone's hand & cry with them & help them through this hard time that God will fill your heart back up with His love & help you with the next person you help. I also pray that you will recieve MANY blessings from all the good your doing!!!!!!! I know you will!!!!! You are just that kind of person!!!!! God's Blessings to ANYONE who is helping out in this time of sorrow!!!!!!!!! The people who are here helping, the ones sending money, cloths, etc, & the ones praying every chance they can. You just don't know what that means to the people here. You don't know what it means to me. Everyone is struggling to get through this. It's effecting everyone. GOD BLESS!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

That is so true Turtle Lady, there are many folks out there, "Earning their crowns in heaven", as my mother used to say. Amazing work from everyone!

What's the saying-all pennies add to dollars and all dollars change a life! There are so many people willing to do what they can-I just received word from a local radio station that they are willing to contribute a couple concert tickets to a concert that will sell out quickly in this area to be raffled off at my work! I am really excited about it. I am trying to get one of the local tire stores to donate a set of tires to go to the raffle-big ticket items bring in the $ and the more $ the more help we can give to the Red Cross to help those affected! I have a few more ideas in mind of places to hit up for the raffle-we have 2 other charities doing contribution baskets and things like that so I want to go a different route on this one. IT is wonderful how everyone has pulled together to give-both of themselves and $ (be it clothes, etc)-what a wonderful group of people we have on CC and within our families! Our reward is seeing the faces of those we have helped-we will never know exactly which face but those helped will know! GOD BLESS ALL!!! usaribbon.gif
What you do may be a "little thing" but "little things" add to alot!

HI everyone! I would like to say how very touched I am to see the number of people from this site who are willing to lend a helping hand. I live in southeast Louisiana about 60 west of New Orleans. We were very fortunate. I have a few shingles missing from my roof and there was little damage to our surrounding communtinties. The strom's eye passed about 75 miles west of here but we were on the "good" side where there is usally not much damage. All I keep thinking is that it could have just as easily have been me. The stories I have heard from the people that have witnessed it first hand are just heart wrenching. People here have donated time, money, clothes, food, toys, and almost anything else you can imagine to help. I am so glad to know that the CC community and the rest of the world is doing the same. Keep up the good work!

Hi Cheryl,
I know how you feel. I'm from Sulphur and have been to the shelters myself. Who knows, maybe we even crossed paths. I've been to the shelters for my job and on my personal time. I too have heard some tearful stories and it makes you feel so helpless. My daughter and some co-workers worked out a deal with their company, Conoco, and several of us took about 25 children from the civic center to a movie last saturday and Conoco paid for it. It was fun. Well, keep up the good work, they're going to need help for quite some time to come. I just wanted you to know someone close by knows what it's like. Thanks to all of you on this site for your prayers and support.

Well the month of September has ended, and with it our Katrina Relief Fundraising program.

The total sales for the month of September was $1403.95.

With 10% going to Red Cross that makes a donation earnings of $140.40.

We will round it off and make a donation from Cake Central for $145.

In addition to the donation from sales there were reported direct donations from Cake Central members to Red Cross of $1285.00

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this fundraising a success! thumbs_up.gif
