I just cannot work with a bride! I only made two wedding cakes and do not want to make anymore. I just love my party/christening/event cake clients! Most of them are so greatful, but the brides .... I tell them I do not really make wedding cakes, but then they start with, but this is a simple cake, I just want something plain. All they actually want to say is I want the price of a simple cake, but with all the extras you can think of. Or they start with something simple and as the time to the wedding is coming near they change their mind and if you change your price they are not happy. Oh no thank you, no brides for me!

Not me! I'd rather deal with 10 'bridezillas' than one mom throwing a 1st bd party! I have spent more time with a 1st party mom than with any b-t-b to date.

I'm with you on this one. Before I retired, I use to dread the appointment that was coming with a mom for a 1st b-day. I want this for my prince/princess, noooo i want that, oh wait what if we do this.

You know, KNOCK ON WOOD, I have yet to have a Bridezilla. Or someone who changed things at the last moment, etc. I have had two people who I had to chase down for payment, but that's only a drop in the bucket.

I think you can get a feel for those 'zillas pretty quickly, and IMHO, don't take the job. I know some people are doing this as their only income so they may not choose to be so picky, but I am blessed to be a SAHM with a wonderful husband that provides, so I can be a picky witch if I want to. (Not that I ever am... but I am willing to be if needed!!)

I know where you are coming from, BUT I do have to admit, I love working on wedding cakes, I love working on 1st B-day cakes, I LOVE WHAT I DO! & most of ALL I LOVE SEEING THEIR FACES LIGHT UP WHEN THEY SEE THEIR CAKE FOR THE FIRST TIME, IT JUST BRING HAPPINESS TO ME...(and I have had a couple of Bridzillaz' from one peeking through my window at midnight; I invited her in for a few minutes, then polietly told her " if you want this cake at your reception it's time for me to get back to work"... imagine seeing someone peeking through your window in the middle of the night?! that was scary!) GOOD LUCK WITH WHAT YOU DO AND REMEMBER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO DO IT, DON'T DO IT CAUSE IT JUST FEELS SO GOOD DOING WHAT YOU WANT. icon_smile.gif

I am glad I am not abnormal and that some of you feel the same. Maybe I am just to new in the business and do not have a thick skin yet. Just before I posted the forum I had a bride that wants a two-tier cake, dots and stripes choc on top and lemoncake at the bottom. I gave her a price and I could see her face saying - you must be kidding. I told her to get more quotes and then decide (I know I am not expensive, because a lot of people told me this and even suggested that I add an extra amount for time spend on a cake. I tried but it just seems to expensive then.). Anyway after two days the bride phoned and said she just wants to confirm the wedding cake. Hope she will not turn into Bride-zilla ...

Sandysdream, you will get that reaction from brides who haven't priced cakes yet! They think you must've misunderstood the request and are giving them a quote for a new car. Then, they go shop around a bit and come running back to quickly lock in your price! I have had that before. And if a potential bride has already priced cakes, I can tell. They all get that same look in their eyes, like they want to quickly give me cash before I notice that I left a 0 off the end of the price, you know? Like, they think I've temporarily forgotten what it costs. Well, I don't get that as much now since I've raised prices a bit icon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gif but I'm still super competitive.
